Avoid These 12 Common Mistakes While Travelling

Tell me one thing, who among you likes to travel? Of course, all my lovely readers who are currently reading this blog. Travelling is not just about roaming from one place to another, but also about visiting different places, meeting the people living there, exchanging ideas with them, tasting the food culture there, from picking up special mementos to living countless moments, we return home with a treasure trove of beautiful memories. Today, I will highlight the top 12 travel mistakes—avoiding these can make your journey smooth and fulfilling. So let's see..

Decision fatigue

  • Often we plan long journeys. Then we think about where to go and what                to eat every day. Due to this, our brain gets tired.
  • Solution – To avoid this common mistake, one day, don’t plan for sightseeing anywhere, just relax. We should turn on the complete relaxation mode. So that the decision-making power will be reset.

Digital Over-Documentation

  • Every Tourist thinks that everything should be captured on camera. Then they can make reels of it. But during this, the real purpose for which we actually came on the trip remains aside, which is mental relaxation. This could be an unintentional common mistake which can be avoided.
  • Solution Make a simple yet impactful rule and follow it. After going anywhere, keep all the gadgets in the bag for at least the first 15 minutes. And just enjoy the beautiful nature. After that, start shooting. So the memories of the trip stay in your mind, not just on your camera.

Cultural Burnout

  • Sometimes we get overwhelmed by visiting temples all the time. Too much joy is also not good for health.
  • Solution – If you visit temples or do any spiritual activity for 2 days, the next day you can easily go to a scenic place or even go to a cafe and balance it out.

Backup of a Backup

  • Losing a phone is definitely a sad thing. But let’s suppose, unfortunately, that time comes to you while you are travelling??
  • Solution – If the internet is on, there are chances of getting the phone quickly, but if the internet is off, it may take time. To stay prepared, take a photo of all your documents and send it to yourself or a family member on WhatsApp/Telegram and hide a small pen drive inside your bag.

Social Engineering and the ‘Wrong Direction’ tactic

  • Nowadays, scammers are everywhere. They immediately recognise tourists, so they can harm you in any way.
  • Solution – Tourists should always keep a Pepper spray with them. Do not discuss your place of stay in public. My request to all of you is, please avoid this  common travel mistake.  If a stranger asks for your address, always tell them the wrong hotel name or the wrong direction for safety.

Post-Travel Depression

  • After travelling often, it feels very boring to start the daily routine again.
  • Solution – Once you’re back from a long trip, plan a quick, inexpensive outing close to home or nearby city for the next weekend. It will give a signal to your brain that the trip is still going on and lift your mood instantly.

Packing Smart vs. Drying Time

  • Often, we pack fewer clothes to keep our luggage light. Washing clothes ourselves or giving them for laundry is actually a smart way to reduce baggage weight. However, the only drawback is that sometimes the clothes don’t dry in time.
  • Solution: Always keep a ‘Sink Plug’ and a ‘Travel Clothesline’ with you. Instead of depending on the hotel dryer, make it a habit to wash clothes at night and dry them under a fan.

Booking without ‘Vibe Check’

  • Often, hotels are good; their ratings and reviews are great. But sometimes, unfortunately, when we go there, something feels missing, our vibe doesn’t match that place.
  • Solution –  You can avoid this common travel mistake. Before booking, check the Instagram ‘Location Tag’ and look at the ‘Recent’ photos and stories.

Gadget Damage Due to Altitude & Air Pressure

  • Ink pens or liquid cosmetics tend to leak when you go up in altitude or due to the air pressure on flights.
  • Solution: Squeeze out the air from all liquid bottles and then put the lid on. Always keep the pen upright (with the nib up).

First Night’s Safety

  • At a new destination, you can’t sleep easily.  You keep worrying about your own and your family’s safety.
  • Solution – Book your first night in a hotel that is on the main road and has ’24/7 Check-in’. You can avoid this common travel mistake by not booking cheap hotels in alleys for the first night.

Overshooting the Budget (due to small expenses)

  • If you are travelling in a group and are going to split all the expenses, then keep a record of small expenses like tea, water, snacks, etc., in any dedicated app or in a small notebook. So that further transactions will be easy.

‘Probiotic’ shield against ‘Street Food’ infection

  • When you travel, you can’t avoid eating outside. Because of this, there is always a fear of stomach infection or food poisoning.

  • Solution – Start eating curd or taking probiotic supplements at least 3 days before your trip. This helps strengthen your digestive system and makes it easier for your body to handle outside food.
